Job Summary
The Design Engineer / Sr Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design and development of simulator systems and components, from concept to production. This role involves close collaboration with the Prototype, Production, and Electronics R&D teams to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and meet defense-grade standards.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical assemblies, enclosures, and fixtures for simulator systems using SolidWorks and other CAD tools.
- Create and manage 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) in accordance with engineering standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Prototype, Electronics, and Quality Assurance (QA), to guarantee seamless integration of design with system functionality.
- Conduct tolerance analysis, fitment checks, and material selection to ensure manufacturability and structural integrity.
- Support prototype fabrication, monitor assembly processes, and resolve design issues during testing and trials.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, change notes, and revision updates.
- Work on the creation of digital twins, mock-ups, and simulation structures for product validation.
- Participate in design reviews and implement improvements based on feedback from R&D and production.
- Ensure designs comply with defense manufacturing and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience: 7 - 9 years of experience in mechanical design.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong command of SolidWorks (3D Modeling, Assembly, Sheet Metal, and Drafting Modules).
- Understanding of mechanical fabrication processes and machining.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), materials, and manufacturing tolerances.
- Familiarity with prototype development and product life cycle management.
- Vendor knowledge for various types of fabrication processes.
- Soft Skills:
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams under project timelines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in defense manufacturing or simulator development is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is also beneficial.
Experience
7 - 9 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, preferably within the defense or simulation sectors.
Environment
This position is based in Vapi, Gujarat, and is a full-time role that may involve collaboration with various teams situated at different locations.
