Manager, Engineering

Job Summary

The Manager, Engineering will lead a team of staff employees, ensuring their performance aligns with the organization's goals. This role involves defining a vision for the team, optimizing operational efficiency, and addressing complex challenges within the engineering domain.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of staff employees, setting performance objectives, conducting reviews, and recommending pay actions.
• Define and share the technical/functional team roadmap and vision in alignment with departmental and company objectives.
• Report on team activities and be accountable for the performance and results of the unit.
• Develop plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
• Suggest alternatives, improvements, and new techniques in processes and operational models.
• Timely manage the investigation and resolution of production support issues and customer inquiries.
• Collaborate with software development, architecture, solutions, and QA teams to ensure software systems are designed for testability, stability, scalability, and performance.
• Ensure timely communication to team members regarding company and organizational information.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: 10-12 years of industry experience in the development and operation of Big Data Infrastructure and Applications.
• Technical Skills:
  • 4-5 years of experience in distributed Azure cloud-based environments.
  • Proficient with Big Data technology stacks: Apache Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, Hive, Flume, Sqoop, PostGres, Kubernetes, Oozie, Airflow, etc.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms and automated configuration frameworks like Data Mesh, Databricks, and Synapse.
  • Knowledge of scalability, stability, and security challenges in cloud-based applications.
  • Experience with container and virtualization technologies.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery pipeline principles.
  • Experience in infrastructure and log monitoring using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, ELK, and Splunk.
  • General understanding of network layers (TCP/IP, load balancing) is a plus.
  • Experience with high-level programming languages such as Python, Scala, or R is a plus.
